It is this realization that made IECED to focus more on ‘enterprise culture’ than on entrepreneurship development of late. Dependency culture is deep rooted in Malayalee culture and this can be traced to the caste system and matriarchal system of family organization. The excessive dependence on government is actually an extension of this culture. Dependency culture has permeated all walks of Kerala life and is acting as the main impediment to entrepreneurship development.
It is IECED’s considered view that unless people are encouraged and incentivized to take ownership of their life, it is extremely difficult, if not impossible to promote entrepreneurship. IECED believes that the values of enterprise such as, self-discipline, personal initiative, individual responsibility and perseverance can be cultivated in society through interventions in the familial and educational environment. The new tag line “Helping People to Take Ownership of Life’ encapsulates the new focus and mission of IECED.
